| Having a DD is key, any kind of DD. It makes life so much easier when you arent relying on your smoking, leaking, etc Z to get you everywhere. One of the first things everyone always says is that owning the car and dealing with it is expensive in both time and money and if you arent prepared, sell it to someone who is. Unfortunately for the Z, less and less people nowdays want to put in the effort. I have had several Z's from crappy condition to great condition. My current Z was stage 5-7ish when I bought it and it just felt slow after a while. I spent 40-50 grand on it so far, all told, and there are some bugs, but I know they are fixable. My main problem is that I re-used a lot of the original plumbing so that is coming back to bite me, with leaking and corrosion issues. But it will be fixed. One of the things I always use as a comparison is looking at a brand new SS Camaro or Z06 Vette. What do they have that I dont? On some of my previous Z's, it was something basic like A/C and functioning power options like windows :P Trust me its not cool to go everywhere sweating your balls off. So when I purchsed my current Z I asked myself the same questions, what do these brand new cars have that I wouldnt? Very little to nothing. A back up camera? I'll pass. Built in navigation? Not a necessity. Anything I might desire I can install myself, even if it takes a while and the Z is down for a while, I'm still generating income for myself because I still have a DD. I know the car will be back together eventually. And back to the brand new cars... Even the GTRs were burning thru clutches or something originally and Nissan declined to fix them. People blow transmissions and shit all the time right off the lot in Vettes and Camaros and Mustangs. Face it, the Z is basically a race car just like a Vette and race cars need more rigorous maintenence. It is the nature of the beast. You can accomodate the car by having a DD or you should get rid of the car because I have been broke because of my Z before and that is not fun, to hate the car you love because it is fucking up other parts of your life. Luckily I am on much more solid ground now and the Z is a luxury even if I am cussing it half the time, I can blow money on it at my leisure and it can sit in my garage until then.
